Board of Trustees

The Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Joint Fire District is governed by a Board of Trustees, which provides oversight and strategic direction for the district. The board is composed of one appointed representative from each of the three member communities—ensuring equal representation and collaborative decision-making across the district's service area.

The current board members are:

  • John Chambers, Village of Garrettsville

  • Tom Mesaros, Freedom Township

  • Joe Leonard, Nelson Township

The Board of Trustees is responsible for approving the annual budget, establishing district policies, overseeing personnel matters, and ensuring the delivery of effective fire and rescue services.

Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 PM and are open to the public. They are held at the fire station, located at 8035 Elm Street, Garrettsville. These meetings provide transparency and offer residents the opportunity to stay informed and engaged with the direction and operations of the fire district.
