Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Joint Fire District proudly serves approximately 8,800 residents across 52 square miles in Portage County, Ohio, including the Village of Garrettsville and the townships of Freedom and Nelson. The district’s coverage area includes a mix of residential, agricultural, and commercial properties, along with several major transportation routes such as the Ohio Turnpike and US Route 422, increasing the demand for a well-prepared and responsive fire service.

Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Joint Fire District is a non-transport, non-EMS agency, specializing in fire suppression, rescue operations, and incident response support. The department operates with part-time staffing and paid-on-call firefighters, ensuring coverage during peak hours and rapid response to emergencies at all times. The district is led by a full-time Fire Chief, providing professional leadership and continuity in operations, training, and community engagement.
